Smart-Growth & Affordable Housing
A thriving community begins with a stable, affordable place to call home. If you work in Maine, you should be able to live in Maine. In Augusta, solving our housing shortage requires cutting red tape for workforce housing, revitalizing our city’s core, and providing meaningful property tax relief—all while protecting the open spaces and natural character that define our community.
Expanding Workforce & Missing-Middle Housing
Revitalize Underused Properties: In Maine, and specifically Sanford, we need to convert vacant commercial buildings and mill spaces into affordable residential units. I will support state historic tax credits and smart-growth grants to help us keep our town’s charm, while keeping an affordable roof over our neighbors heads with out adding to suburban sprawl.
Support First-Time Homebuyers: We need to expand down-payment and closing-cost grant assistance for young families, local teachers, first responders, and tradespeople.
Incentivize Affordable Set-Asides: I will support initiatives that target state tax incentives to builders who dedicate units to long-term workforce and middle-income affordability.
Direct Tax Relief & Lowering Living Costs
Protect Fixed-Income Seniors: I will fight to fully fund the Property Tax Fairness Credit and the Senior Property Tax Deferral Program to keep longtime residents and seniors from being priced out of their homes.
Proactive Community Support: We must invest in community-based crisis prevention, addiction recovery, and supportive housing partnerships to address unhoused challenges effectively. By supporting these programs in the community it will help reduce the financial strain on municipal budgets and emergency services.
